"Airless summer under the red sun”
Summer, show by Polish Dance Theater is not happy time of fun. Under the red sun is not delightful, but rather dangerous, atmosphere which overwhelms and worry. The title of performance, which brings thought about warm, bright months, seems to show the joyful and light performance. Sun which is the principal of the performance was unnatural. Red color floods the stage and dancers with bloody faint light, unrest and gives the mood of uncertainty, even danger. Dance which has been danced by thirteen happy, also do not out in our memories full of energy gestures which we could connect with summer. Dancers movements, often Fast and build till perfection still have the borders features, Their bodies do not go up, but after every part of dance their bodies go down, We have a feeling that every person on the stage are without any freedom which let us be happy and dance. In some of the moments dancers are tied up. Long, black belts tie their bodies that can they can move only in the limited space. The ends of belt hold one person who seems to hold the other dancers and direct them. From time to time the chains entwine several people in the same that there is a feeling they cannot free themselves from each other. They dance to distressing, rhythmic music, with the red light of a huge sun and spreading smell of incense. The young, half-naked dancers look at each other as executioners on their casualties. Even when they give fresh fruits to each others fresh fruits which suppose to strengthen their bodies after the exhaustive dance, their faces and gestures are alarming and dangerous. Then they eat without conviction, indifferently, as if the juicy fruit brought to their bodies no refreshment. Gestures of putting in their mouth and eating grapes, oranges and apples are associated more with the theft and sin, than encouragement and health. Only at ones at the time dance brings liberation and joy - movements of two dancers stopped to be connected with violence and danger, music do not worry. What brought the moment of relief - it is not known. Moments later, gets stuffy and restless, gestures again, the dancers gestures again are limited, sometimes even brutal. It is not a first time when Polish Dance Theater presents to the audience performance full of paradoxes: which suggests joy and ease, inextricable mysteries lurking dangerousness. In the "Carpe Diem" we could have seen the same thing: the title promised to present a joyful frenzy, performance was full of anxiety and dangerous energy. Therefore, the newest show "Summer - Red Sun" does no longer surprises the audience, who knows PTT.
