Kill the routine - for love

There was a spark. In its performance "Kill - if you love", the Polish Dance Theatre from Poznań showed a play of human passions. Spectators found themselves in the centre of marital rows, intrigues, jealousy and - most of all - love.
The first performance of the Polish Dance Theatre since the premiere was staged as part of the Dancing Week on Saturday. The performance was a departure from abstract themes and an attempt to show events that could well be included in glossy gossip magazines. The artists, movement their only means of expression, told a story of a young couple who - living their cosy routine life - got stuck somewhere between their couch and their tv set. Artists wore no pointe shoes or flowing dresses, just denims and everyday shoes. A strikingly ordinary and natural setting. A husband and a wife, Paulina Wycichowska and Konrad Stefański, using only their bodies and glances, in scenes replete with provocation and jealousy - but also love - showed a struggle to revive a burnt-out passion. It is also worthwhile paying attention to the character of the other woman, played by Elwira Piorun (who also designed choreography for the performance). Her appearance sparked off a certain commotion in the life of the main characters and at the same time became a driving force for future actions taken by the young couple.
The performance was delightfully dynamic, emotions emanating from the stage genuine and dancers full of passion. An interesting idea was using audiovisual technology. Pictures of a woman filmed "live" by her husband, shown on a screen above the stage, made it possible for the audience to see her through the eyes of a man, which reduced the distance between the spectators and the characters. The Saturday performance was a successful documentation of the young people\'s struggle to regain their lost love. In order to achieve this, they had to kill - kill the routine, boredom and bad emotions.
