RELATION FROM INDIA

22.11.2003

We were sleeping rather shortly. It is not that easy for European to begin day at 8 a.m. local time. Early morning toilet also is not so easy. We were still aware of many warnings about drinking not boiled water, eating fruits, etc. Sightseeing of Delhi is next unusual experience. India is democratic country - "everything is possible and everyone can do whatever he wants." It is the new definition of democracy. Also our sightseeing of Delhi was so democratical. We began from hinduistic temple, then New Delhi's street which were built at the time of British Empire. We didn't get to the next points of the program because driver had other plans. In the evening we were taking part in the formal opening of the European Cultural Week.

23.11.2003

This day we have spent to prepare ourselves for performance. Polish Dance Theatre performed the first time in it's 30 years history for India's audience. We were thinking at the backstage what will be the feed back on "Tango with Lady M." which has strong European roots. Will they recognise Lady Makbet, Medea, Jazon, or Adam and Eve. Finally there was standing ovation and very warm welcome. It was surprise for all of us. After performance Mr Ambassador and his wife invited us for full-dress dinner. Dancers had got many congratulations.
What makes "Tango with Lady M." familiar for audience all over the word are emotions - love, hate, jealousy, that are common for all cultures. "Tango with Lady M." gives such expression.

24.11.2003

We could have seen sunrise in India from bus on our way to Agra, Taj Mahal and Fatehpur Sikri. Agra had welcomed us with gigantic traffic of cars, rickshaw and pedestrians. Holy cows with a big calmness despite of horrible noise. Everything was colourfull with flowers. Ticket price to get to Taj Mahal was 750 rupees for tourists at the same time for local people it costs 20 rupees. It was no more important detail after getting to Taj Mahal - it was worth that price.

Taj Mahal was built after death of the sweetheart woman of the Shah Ddżahana. Some distance off it looks like it dissolves in the air. When you get closer you can not watch it without sunglasses or you have eyes full of tears. Fatehpur Sikri is a city - phantom which used to be cultural and administrative centre of the whole kingdom. It is constructed from red sandstone We were walking through empty court-yard thinking about life 400 years ago.

25.11.2003

We were getting to Chandigar at the north of India. Definitely there was much colder there then in the south. While we were preparing to performance our dressing rooms were searched by armed men with metal detector. After all we got information that there were disturbances in town and security service took care for us and officials invited to the performance. Performance again had met with a warm reception. However there was not so big attendance because of disturbances in a town.

26.11.2003

We came back to Delhi. In the evening we had seen kathakali performance. We had admired masterly skill and precision of movement, but we did not recognized history shown by gestures. We could only distinct single emotions. Once more India gave us unforgetable impressions and feelings.

27.11.2003

We had flight to Mumbaj. We left plane with a feeling of hot, moist and thick with smoke air. We were walking in the direction of the gulf after taking lodgings in hotel. Traffic on the streets is equally intensive in the midnight as in the midday. We had an impression that free breathing is possible only in conditioning hotel. Again we had a chance to trade on a streets with many tradesmen, to drink tea or coffee distributed from bicycle, to watch begging children - that stays in your mind forever.

28.11.2003

After breakfast we had free time to see at least part of the city. Then we started our preparations for the last performance. Audiance from the south of India also gave as standing ovation. Unfortunately we had only one hour to pack costumes, take shower and left hotel. We did not believe it is possible but we managed to do it. Then we could eat dinner and get to the airport.

This is the only a small piece of the whole tour full of experiences. I am sure that each member of the Polish Dance Theatre has different remembrances because it is too much for one person.
