Conrad Drzewiecki’s artistic biography Renowned dancer, choreographer, dance teacher and ballet reformer. Recipient of the Primo Premio Assoluto Award at the International Ballet Competition in Vercelli. Soloist with the Poznań Opera, Grand Ballet du Marquis de Cuevas, Theatre D’art du Ballet, Ballet de Paris, and the Ludmila Tcherina Ballet. He also choreographed abroad, among others in Ballet Nationale J.M.F., Het National Ballet in Amsterdam, Danza Nationale de Cuba in Havana, Staatsoper Berlin and Deutsche Oper Berlin, Stadtheatern Malmö, Narodne Divadlo in Prague. His innovative and breakthrough approach to Polish ballet dates back to the 1960s and 1970 when Drzewiecki was at the helm of the Poznań Opera Ballet and expanded its repertoire with new and original choreographic compositions that synthesized neo-classic technique and modern dance. Drzewiecki’s groundbreaking ideas of the style and artistic programme led to the establishment of an autonomous ballet company: the Polish Dance Theatre – Poznań Ballet, which according to its founder was “to create forms that continue the prevailing trends in international ballet”. Conrad Drzewiecki achieved genuine success in his work with the Polish Dance Theatre that started in 1973 and continued until 1987. He won many prestigious awards such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs diploma and the 1st Degree National Prize for promoting Polish culture abroad, the ITI diploma for the dissemination of Polish culture abroad, the City of Poznań Award for outstanding achievements in culture and art, the Meritorious for Polish Culture title and also toured Europe and participated in such festivals as the International Dance Festival in Paris and Chateauvallon, Baletto Oggi in Bari, Musica Sacra in Milan, Intercontri Musicali Romani, Bregener Festspiele and Berliner Festtage. Conrad Drzewiecki’s many legendary choreographic works include: “Epitafium dla Don Juana", “Cudowny Mandaryn”, “Pawana na śmierć Infantki”, “Adagio na smyczki i organy”, “Odwieczne pieśni”, “Krzesany”, “Stabat Mater”, “Modus Vivendi”, some of which have been filmed. |
