ANNA GRABKA-SZPILMAN (Switzerland/Poland) Graduate of Warsaw Ballet School and the Frederic Chopin School of Music in Warsaw. Performed professionally as soloist with the Grand Theatre in Warsaw. Won the second award at the National Dance Competition in Gdańsk in 1985. She was the first Polish dancer to sign a contract with John Neumeier’s Hamburg Ballet in 1985 where she spent 18 years as the first soloist and as Neumeier’s assistant in the season 2001/2002. Worked with Mats Ek, William Forsythe, Jirzi Kylian and Maurice Bejart. Since 1997 she has taught at and collaborated with the Royal Swedish Ballet in Stockholm, the Gothenburg Opera House, the Finnish National Ballet in Helsinki, Het National Ballet in Amsterdam, the Hanover Opera and Daniel Nixon’s Northern Ballet Theatre in Great Britain. Her cooperation with the Polish Dance Theatre started in 2005. She has also conducted a seminar for teachers and students of the Warsaw School of Music. She has been practicing the Pilates Method since 1985.
