National Dance online on International Dance Day

The upcoming International Dance Day is an opportunity for the Polish Dance Theatre to dance the Internet space.

On this special day we planned to organize a social action in the scenery of the city, i.e. National Dance, under the patronage of the Mayor of Poznan, Jacek Jaskowiak.

A dance procession to the rhythm of a polonaise moving along Taczaka street in Poznan was supposed to grip as many people as possible to enjoy the beauty of the oldest Polish national dance.

Unfortunately, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the event has no chance to unite us physically in one place and time – we can, however, transfer it online and dance together in virtual reality.

Here is our proposal - this Wednesday, April 29th, on our FB profile, we will publish a video material with the participation of invited guests, which will start a joint performance of the polonaise "online".

And it will be possible, because all those willing - and we hope there will be many of them - are encouraged to co-create the collective dance by posting in the commentary under the film a photo or a short recording showing their own performance of the dignified Polish dance, originating from the ceremony of Polish magnate and noble courts, still danced with pleasure during proms or weddings.

What is important is that both traditional versions, reproducing canonical steps, figures and the majestic character of the polonaise are welcome (we will also tell you how to dance it in accordance with tradition, you will find a lot about it on YT and FB in the "Nationality of Dance" chat room), as well as freestyle interpretations with a lot of improvisation and spontaneity.

From the multitude of materials sent in, a huge online group dance will be created, moving in the footsteps of the first pair of Guests.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Short films and photos can be sent till Monday the 4th of May, 10 am.

The event takes place as part of the WEdance action, under the patronage of the Institute of Music and Dance.
